"When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord. When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him." Exodus 34:29-30
"Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, fading though it was, will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? If the ministry that condemns men is glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness!" 2 Corinthians 3:7-9
Moses had spent forty glorious days and nights in the presence of God. He spent his time writing down the Ten Commandments and fellowshipping with his God. When he finally left the presence of God and began his descent down the mountain, he was unaware of the heavenly glory that radiated from his face. As he reached the camp, Moses was confused by the reaction of his friends and family. Some probably covered their mouths, gasping for breath; others may have simply pointed at him and then ran away. The white brilliance of the glow radiating from his face was more than any human could bear to look at.
According to 2 Corinthians 3:7-8, the power and glory released to believers through Jesus Christ is even more powerful than the glory Moses received on the mountain. If the face of Moses became radiant with holy glory while fellowshipping with God on Mt. Sinai, how much more will our lives be transformed by the power and presence of the Holy Spirit as we fellowship with Christ? Although our faces will probably not glow like Moses', there will be a real sense of supernatural joy, life, and power that will radiate from our lives.
Furthermore, the effects of being in God's presence are not just spiritual. When we spend time in the presence of God, our outward appearance will begin to change too. People will notice a new glow in our smile that only the joy of the Lord can bring. We may even stand a bit straighter because the burdens of sin and guilt have been taken away! The prophet Isaiah says God will bestow on his people "a crown of beauty instead of ashes." Spending time with God is the least known, but most effective, beauty secret! May God continue to bring transformation in your life as spend time in his presence today - a transformation that will shine the light of Jesus into the lives of others, as well.
